Eyes Open to See

I’m delighted by the changing of seasons, by the unfolding beauty as one flows into another. Now that the mornings are cooler, my walks are longer and I walk at the pace of noticing. As my feet move forward my gaze meanders then focuses on a tree changing from green to red. I’ll stand underneath it, cradling my tilted head with my hands, looking up to admire the stained glass effect of the sun shining through leaves.

I’ll walk further then stop to notice individual leaves arrayed in showy colors and acorn caps bright with gold. At times passing by then retracing my steps to have another look, maybe squat down to capture a happy photo. Beauty like this must be shared.

I look for, and sometimes see, a turtle or two along the path. Their shells blending in with the fallen leaves. A quick photo is taken then I’m on my way, not wanting to disturb them.

My dad has asked how I’m able to see so much beauty. I tell him it’s because I’m always looking for it, and when I look for God’s blessings I always find them.

When I get out of bed in the morning I open my blinds and look down at the prayer path. I thank God for the day, promising to rejoice in it. I thank him for the prayer paths everywhere and the people walking on them, that their eyes would be open to the beauty of his creation around them and within them.

I pray the same for you today, that you would have eyes open to see.
