I’m delighted by the variety of friends who bless my life. Their personalities all have different nuances that make them unique and interesting. Far too often we compare ourselves to others, wanting what someone else has and feeling that we come up short. But how boring life would be if everyone had the same look, sense of humor, talents or level of energy.
My church has a large, stained glass window at the front of the sanctuary that I often admire. What makes it so beautiful is the assortment of colors, shapes and sizes that all come together to make something much more interesting and eye catching than if all the glass were the same. I like how the light changes as it passes through the various colors. I’ve picked out a piece of glass to represent me, and have asked some friends to do the same. It’s a visual reminder of who we are in this community of believers.

For a while now I’ve been intrigued by the idea of people as an ingredient in soup. Each person brings their own flavor that mixes with others to create something delicious. And just as soup tastes better the next day, people tend to take on the flavors or traits of those around them the more time they spend together.
Think of your favorite soup and all the ingredients that go into it to create the taste you really enjoy. Consider the colors, textures and flavors. Now think about who you would be in that soup. What is it you bring to the mix? Not just an ingredient you like but something that ties in with who you are?
I am the broth. I’m not a bold personality who is quickly noticed and commented on, more of a subtle flavor that makes things a bit better. I’m the one who brings people together to a place where we can share our lives and become better by being together.

I’d be delighted to read your answer in the comments.
